Burningboy is an Irish, musical artist, also known as Terry Byrne. He has been a support act for Snowpatrol, academy award winner Glen Hansard and has won the coveted opening slot on the 2FM 2MORO tour 2006.

In 2007 he was invited to 2FM to record an acoustic session for the Dan Hegarty show. The session was recorded in under and hour and was described as ‘one of the stand out sessions of the year, pure, raw, beauty’.

Dan Hegarty went on to say, “Terry Byrne is one of those performers that doesn’t know how good they are. His modesty is only outshined by his talent. The Session he recorded for my show was excellent – I’m really looking forward to hearing his album.”

Terry’s main influences span a variety of genres. The end product is a quirky, soulful blend of folksy sincerity served up with some catchy pop rock. The things that sparked burningboy’s initial interests in music were an old record player and like any child, the family’s hand me down vinyl.

The records that weren’t used as Frisbee’s ignited his infatuation with artists from motown, sixties pop, folk, country, cheesy 80’s one hit wonders and alternative rock in his teens. Deeply inspired by artists as diverse as The Beatles, Otis Redding, Brian Wilson, and Tom Waits to Nirvana, The Doors, Dinosaur Jr, the Ramones and The Pixies.

The essence of his voice is on a sincere, soulful plane. The music is melodic, passionate, atmospheric and dramatic at times. He is as comfortable playing intimate acoustic shows as he is tearing the stage apart with his band and has been rewarded with some very enthusiastic reviews.

One reviewer said, ‘Its one of natures wonders that a soft spoken, overly laid back guy can erupt into this wailing ball of fury onstage’. ‘The energy of the four members of burningboy was immense, the question on revellers lips was, when can we see these guys again?’

His debut solo album is already causing whispers of anticipation online and in local respects. The album is shaping up to be a melting pot of over a decades worth of ideas. Its genres mix and merge at points representing his influences.

‘The music I make is for people like me, with varied tastes. When I was younger I was happy in cover bands, but there are other songs inside me, I’m just a carrier for the ideas, its like the songs decide when they want to be heard, so I figure, I’m the one that has to dress them up for the ball.’

With a fondness for the quirkier side of things, burningboy’s music is ever evolving. Believing all music has its place and can be labelled, we’ve taken the trouble to label the box you can place us in………………………………………….

THIS WILL MAKE YOU SMILE OUT LOUD.
